Reader, I know I’ve been on an anti niche, pro vision kick lately but…
I swear on everything that I love:
When you take this whole “following a vision” thing seriously, AMAZING stuff starts to fall into place.
If you peeped my last email, there was a WHOLE lot of talk about how my vision, my purpose, is to feel deeply connected and help others feel it too…
No matter how I get them there.
Could be copywriting.
Could be yoga.
Could be… both?
At the same time? 🤔
Yes, yes it could be.
I recently had the opportunity to be a guest on a podcast...
A podcast for yoga teachers…
To talk about using storytelling in emails to grow their biz.
LIKE WHAT??
Talk about everything feeling aligned and connected, right!!
During the conversation, I shared a couple email examples to really show the listeners how powerful storytelling can be.
Take a peek at these examples (paraphrased from the convo) and see which makes YOU feel more connected 👇🏻
To set the stage:
A yoga teacher is writing an email to her subscribers to let them know a new yoga practice focused on compassion is now live on YouTube.
-Draw back the curtains, begin scene 😂-
EMAIL 1
Hey friend!
I’m writing to share that my newest video is now live on YouTube!
Today, I’ll guide you through a sequence that’s focused on compassion (karuna) and how it can benefit your practice on and off the mat.
You’ll learn things like:
-blah
-blah
-more blah

EMAIL 2
Hey friend!
I need to be honest with you.
I’ve been struggling with my yoga practice a bit lately.
(Wait… A yoga teacher? Struggling? I know, right?)
But it’s not with the poses (asana) or the breathing (pranayama)...
It’s the stuff people don’t see.
It’s the actions people take that align with the teachings of yoga.
Or *don’t* align.
And while I was making this week’s video for you, my issue really came to light.
As I was recording, I kept running into problems.
It was like nothing could go right!
The audio was cutting in and out, my light fell in the middle of the practice, and my computer froze while editing.
I lost the whole thing 😣
My friend, I was about to call it quits.
I caught myself thinking I wasn’t good enough to be doing all this.
Like, who am I to be making videos and guiding you through yoga when I can’t even finish a video??
But then the irony of my thoughts stopped me dead in my tracks.
You see, this week’s practice is all about compassion (karuna)...
Yet here I was, being SO hard on myself and NOT practicing the very thing I wanted to share with you.
But that’s the beautiful thing about yoga, isn’t it?
This practice allows us to become more self-aware.
So instead of judging myself for the lack of compassion, I thought, hey, maybe now was the perfect time to make this for you (and for myself).
I took a deep breath, finished the video, and now it’s ready for you to watch.
My friend, there might be moments when being compassionate to others is easy… but when it comes to yourself? That’s the real challenge.
So perhaps this video is a reminder we all need from time to time, myself included.
And you better believe I’ll be watching it right alongside you.

END SCENE
Daaaaaamn ooookay.
So like, you can’t tell me these have the same exact effect.
Because they most certainly do NOT.
Email 1 isn’t necessarily bad… but there’s no connection there.
It’s informative, it gives the reader what they need to know, and boom, done.
But Email 2?
It reveals a relatable moment and allows the reader to feel like they understand exactly where this yoga teacher is coming from.
And it shows that this person is teaching from experience, because it’s something they deal with too.
So down the line, when these readers are ready to invest in a program, training, workshop, etc. that this teacher and maybe a few others are putting out there?
It’s pretty damn likely this teacher would be a top contender if they’re sending emails like #2 up there.
Now, these examples weren’t something I just made up today, Reader.
I thought of them in the shower…
The morning RIGHT before I recorded this conversation as a guest on the All Mats Taken podcast.
They were so good, I had to jump out and write them down before I forgot 😂
The best part about all this?
Even if you’re not a yoga teacher, there are still a LOT of gems you can grab from this conversation.
