🙈 A little woo, a lot of guilt (getting deep)

I think a little woo is healthy, Reader.

Just because something can’t be 100% proven doesn’t mean it’s not real.

(I mean, c’mon, do we really think that we, as humans, have a concrete understanding of this entire universe??? 🙄)

But believing in omnipotent forces, energy, manifestation… any of that kind of stuff, can be a great source of inspiration for self-reflection and growth.

That’s exactly why I got a new oracle deck not too long ago.

Are the cards I pull meant to be? Were my hands guided by the universe?

…Was it literally just random and by change?

I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️

But I love using decks like this as a journal prompt or a way to get me thinking more deeply than I may have without it.

So back to this new deck.

This beautiful collection of cards caught my eye because it’s specifically created for “soul-preneurs and creatives.”

Um, hiiieee! 🙋🏻‍♀️

It’s called the Sacred Creators Oracle and it actually comes with a lot of great additional resources too.

Great, in-depth stuff for entrepreneurs…

But not the point here.

Thumbing through the guidebook, there’s a section explaining a little exercise the creator suggests you do beFORE you do any card pulls.

Go through the entire deck, familiarize yourself with the cards, and then pick two:

Your favorite and
Your least favorite

Hmm, this should be interesting.

So I started to go through the deck, sorting the cards into two piles.

The thought was that once I got the faves and the ehs separated, I could then go through and choose the winner from each.

When I got to card #39 however, I felt a literal twinge in my gut.

I just KNEW.

“Least favorite”

Why would I have such a profound reaction to a card with such a beautiful message??

→ Because it spoke to everything I was currently, and have been, struggling with.

Bravely

Market

Magic

Bravely - How can I even think about embodying “bravery” when I cripple at the thought of showing up confidently?

Imposter Syndrome had been eating away at me for weeks months, in every aspect of my work and life.

Copywriting and marketing? Why would anyone choose me?

Yoga? Who am *I* to be guiding people through this beautiful tradition and lifestyle?

I knew it was all a big fat lie, but it wouldn’t stop.

I buried myself into a dark place.

Market - Me. The copywriter who freakin’ KNOWS how to do this and LOVES doing it for her clients…

But doing it for myself? Meh.

Showing up on LinkedIn started to feel like a chore.

The thought of sitting at my computer even longer killed my soul.

Plus, remember, no one wants what I do anyway so why should I even waste the time? (sigh, inner thoughts are great).

Magic - I had already convinced myself that the things I do could never be seen as magical.

Transformative, profound, life changing, supportive, essential...

None of what I do could even come remotely close to that.

Imposter Syndrome was alive and well, making sure my mental health was not.

So when I saw this card, it was an instant reminder of all the things I *should* be doing but wasn’t “good enough” to be doing it.

But it only hurt for a while.

Because the exercise didn’t say to just pick out the cards, but to also really dig deep into WHY.

That’s where we get into the good stuff anyway, right?

Those thoughts above were my initial reaction.

…Filled with lots of shame and guilt for letting myself believe such intensely negative things about myself.

Using the prompts within the guidebook though, I was able to get to the heart of what I was feeling.

(And followed up by an impactful conversation, this is where things started to change 💜)

So Reader, let’s work through this one together, yea?

Because being an entrepreneur, a biz owner, a service provider, etc.… you kind of have to bravely market your magic too, you know 🙃

Starting with the essential meaning and self-care messages, see if any from either category resonate with you.

Maybe even jot them down.

Essential meanings

Bravery
Honesty
Taking a leap of faith in your advertising
Showing up as you and only you
Sharing your essence with the world

Self-care message

Hiding who you really are
Copying someone else instead of sharing your own essence
Fear of failure
Imposter Syndrome

Then, take a peek at these key ideas and use them as little reminders when it comes to your own marketing.

Key ideas

-”Make no mistake, someone out there is looking for what you are offering, and they will be thrilled to find you when you are honestly sharing your unique magic.”

-”Even if it feels vulnerable, share yourself honestly and always put your soul into your messaging. Not sure how to share your magic? Your unique essence and humanness is the right place to start.”

Finally, think about these prompts.

Like, REAAALLY think about them. Be honest with yourself when you answer them.

No one has to see the answers but you… and if you’re not completely truthful in your response, you’re only doing yourself a disservice.

Journal/reflection prompts

-So many creators start their journey from a place of total passion and authenticity, and then slowly move their brand (or their vision of what’s possible) toward something they believe to be more of a sure shot. Are you playing it too safe when you put yourself out there?

-What is your magic?

-What have you been hiding?

-What is missing from the ways you express yourself online or in person?

There’s a lot of ideas that come up through this entire message:

Humanness
Authenticity
Honesty
Essence
Magic
Soul

For me, it kind of serves as validation that when we show up and share our stories, that’s how we really start to connect with others.

I’ve only been talking about storytelling for a bajillion years, right?

But think about it.

When there’s a shit-ton of people who do what you do, your stories are going to be what makes you stand out.

And what’s in your stories?

Lessons learned
Perspectives
Successes
Insights
Failures
Beliefs
Values
Skills

Which isn’t that kind of like… your essence? Your authentic self?

You know, all the other ideas in the messaging behind that damn card!!

I guess there’s some food for thought for both of us here, Reader.

How can you (ahem, we) show up and share our magic in your own messaging?

How can you inspire people with the amazing work you’re doing?

How can you be more bold and take up space?

Whatever you’re thinking right now, it better include your incredible stories, my friend 💜
